Aim
- To encourage students to become
Food Explorers.
During the lesson, students
will explore the world of food by: |
- Discussing food experiences and
food-related activities
- Being involved
with hands-on food-based activities
- Discovering
new and different foods through
use of the 5 senses
(ie. looking, touching, smelling,
tasting and listening)

| The
lesson will also include general messages
including the importance of: |
- Tasting new foods
- Respecting other people’s
tastes/preferences
- Table manners and general good
food habits
- Basic nutrition, hygiene and food
safety

| At
the end of the lesson the new Food Explorers
will be given recipes and activities
to take home and encourage a positive
ongoing attitude to food and cooking. |

- Accredited
volunteer Food Media Club Australia
(FMCA) members will present the
lessons in conjunction with class
teachers, and with volunteer parents.
All accredited FMCA presenters have
participated in a Food Explorer
training session.
- Special support
kits will include program templates,
sponsor giveaways for students,
classroom extension activities,
take-home recipes and activities,
resource material for the class
teacher, and support material for
the canteen.
- Out-of-pocket
expenses (eg. food costs) will be
covered by students through a nominal
fee (no more than $2 per child)..
