Aim - To encourage students to become Food Explorers.

During the lesson, students will explore the world of food by:

  • Discussing food experiences and food-related activities
  • Being involved with hands-on food-based activities
  • Discovering new and different foods through use of the 5 senses
    (ie. looking, touching, smelling, tasting and listening
    )
The lesson will also include general messages including the importance of:
  • Tasting new foods
  • Respecting other people’s tastes/preferences
  • Table manners and general good food habits
  • Basic nutrition, hygiene and food safety
At the end of the lesson the new Food Explorers will be given recipes and activities to take home and encourage a positive ongoing attitude to food and cooking.

  • Accredited volunteer Food Media Club Australia (FMCA) members will present the lessons in conjunction with class teachers, and with volunteer parents. All accredited FMCA presenters have participated in a Food Explorer training session.
  • Special support kits will include program templates, sponsor giveaways for students, classroom extension activities, take-home recipes and activities, resource material for the class teacher, and support material for the canteen.
  • Out-of-pocket expenses (eg. food costs) will be covered by students through a nominal fee (no more than $2 per child)..
